Quote: "Whose was that tear? Mine? His? I said nothing. Nor did he. We had never understood one another so clearly" ( Wiesel 75).
Analysis: I think this quote shows how Elie and his father are on the same page. They understand by looking at eachother that they are both hurting. Actions speak louder than words in this quote. I think not saying anything really said alot at this moment. Instead of saying that they are okay when they are clearly not, they were able to actually see eachother hurt which made the moment real. Through all of the tragedy, they actually grow closer together, much closer than before.
Quote: "I shall always remember that smile. From which world did it come?"
Analysis: In this quote Elie and his dad are resting, Elie's father looks around and smiles. I think it is memorable for Elie because during all of this pain and suffering, his dad was able to show some sign of being happy. I think it was about being thankful that they are still alive and still together. They are both scared but I think he may have been trying to stay strong for Elie.

Section 3 quote and analysis
Quote: "You must never lose faith, even when the sword hangs over your head. That's the teachings of our sages...." (Wiesel 40)
Analysis: I think this quote is really powerful. It shows the Jews strength and devotion to their religion. This quote means that you must keep faith when the worst comes. Even when the Jews were in the concentration camps they said prayers and gave thank to being alive. This quote reveals the personal strength the Jews had. This quote may reveal a theme for the book which is, keep your faith even when your life is in someone elses hands.
Quote: " Are you mad? We've been told to stay standing. Do you want to bring trouble on us all?"
Analysis: This quote shows how the Jews had completely lost freedom, and how they are being kept as prisoners. It shows that they feel they have no control anymore, they have lost all their rights. The Germans have taken so much from them at this point, they are in constant fear.

Quote Analysis
1. Quote: " I wanted to come back to Sighet to tell you the story of my death. So that you could prepare yourselves while there was still time. To live? I don't attach any importance to my life any more. I'm alone. No, I wanted to come back, and to warn you. And see how it is, no one will listen to me " (Wiesel, 17 )
Analysis: This quote shows how this character has developed through his experiences while held captive by the Gestapo in Poland. He use to have a strong passion for life and now he feels there is no importance to life anymore. This quote is foreshadowing the events that will take place because Moche is warning Elie about the cruelty happening to the Jews. What happened to Moche foreshadows what will happen to the Jews later on in the story. The news he brought of the torture of his fellow Jews becomes a theme for the book.
2. Quote: " Jews listen to me! I can see a fire! There are huge flames! It is a furnace!" (Wiesel, 34)
Analysis: In this quote Madame Schachter is trying to warn the jews of a fire. She had been hysterical and had talked continually of flames and a furnace. This event does foreshadow upcoming events in the chapter. In the end of the chapter it there really is a furnace at Birkenau, reception center for Auschwitz.
3. Quote: " The yellow star? Oh well, what of it? You don't die of it..." (Wiesel, 20)
Analysis: The yellow star is a symbol for the Jewish people, it let the Germans know who to tae captive. Irony is used in this quote because in the holocaust, people did die because they were Jews and this quote Elie's dad said you wouldn't die because of that.

Snapshot of Hawaii's seacoast
My snapshot is of the seacoast in Hawaii. In the picture you see the blue color that is as deep as the sky and as clear as crystal. The sea looks as calm as the puffy white clouds above it and the waves are as gentle as the small fish in the ocean. The ocean looks like it's sparkling because of the sun hitting the surface and the atmosphere is serene.
As you look deeper into the photo you can see other colors like foam green around the shallow parts. You can see the long green, leafy kelp on the surface of the ocean, the large, sharp looking black stones and wet, cool sand. As you look out to the ocean you can see scuba divers and see them jumping from the towering cliff on the edge of the ocean. As a scuba diver hits the ocean you can visualize the splash and picture the bubbles quickly rising to the surface above the diver.
From the ocean view you can see the rolling waves crash against the side of the narrow cliff with a small force. As the waves splash against the cliff you can almost feel the mist of the seawater and smell the salty ocean breeze.

A Good Listener
A situation, in Of Mice and Men, when someone seeks out another person to confide in would be when George confides in Slim to talk about Lennie. George tells Slim the reasons he keeps Lennie around like how nice he is, how George doesn't want to be lonely, and how Lennie wouldn't have anyone else if George left him. I think George felt so relieved to talk about this innstead of holding in his frustrations. He told Slim what happened at Weed with Lennie. Slim wasn't judgmental towards Lennie, he just listened. Slim, in the end of the coversation believes Lennie truly is a good guy but says that "he just isn't bright".
I think when someone is a good listener they don't interupt the person when their talking. They won't judge the person immediatly either. I think a good listener will let you vent and do most of the talking, give good advice, and keep the conversation between the two of you. When you confide in someone, you should make sure it's a person your sure is loyal and trustworthy.
I confide in all of my friends sometimes. If there was something serious I needed to tell someone I would tell one of my closest friends only. I haven't really had too many people betray my confidence but when they do it makes it harder to trust any of your friends. You may feel really betrayed and hurt, you might not trust that person again. If someone told other people something I told them in confidence I wouldn't really share anything else with them again. I have my friends confide in me alot. I don't tell anyone else what I hear unless something serious is going on. If something bad was happenning I would tell an adult. My friends trust is a big thing, it means alot that they put so much trust into me to keep what they say a secret. So, I wouldn't want to ruin our friendship, and just by telling one other person I could.
